Problems with technology in the classroom

Problems with technology in the classroom

As technology makes it way in our lives with every step even our classrooms are spared from it. We have the latest technology to teach and learn. Institutes are continuously making changes in their structure to compete with others and to be above all but this step has also brought in a lot of issues for the administration as well the teachers.

Here are some disadvantages of technology in the classroom:

1. Distraction: The new mode of learning is more of a distraction for students rather than using it for the betterment and learning. Students spend most of their time with YouTube videos and scrolling through social media websites like Facebook.

2. Damaged Equipment: No matter how advance we become but the overuse or ill-treatment of devices in classroom somehow lead to the device being damaged. Despite a number of instructions to students on how to use new device there is always a risk associated with it when students use the device for the first time.

3. Gaming over Studies: This has recently been noticed that students spend their time playing online games and become addicted. They lose their interest in the class and thus their productivity decreases.

4. Cheating: Gone are the days when a student thought 10 times before bringing a chit in the exam hall and thought to pass it to his/her fellow mate on the next seat. With more and more use of laptops, iPad and other electronic devices it’s almost impossible to catch a student cheating in exam as they can easily search anything on the internet and copy the desired answer.

5. Barriers to integrating technology in the classroom: A proper infrastructure is required for hassle free working of technologically equipped devices which comes with maintenance cost. It not only includes a fixed investment, but also regular checking and service of devices is also mandatory. Integration of new equipment with the exiting one is also something to note as it’s not an easy task.
