Pros and Cons of using technology in the classroom

The use of technology in the field of education, especially in classrooms is something that we all are aware of. The interlinking of technology in the education system has evolved greatly over the years. From having virtual white board, to smart classes, to online teaching to socially interacting, there’s no area of a classroom where we can’t find the use of technology. Although it has proved to be a boon to the education system, the hiccups of technology cannot be overlooked at. Let’s start with the positive effects of technology in the classroom and then look at why technology in the classroom is bad. 

Positive effects of technology in the Classroom

1) Smart classes: Gone are the days when teachers had to put a lot of efforts to make students visualize the objects and maps while studying. Thanks to the smart classes where a student can now have full access to 3-D Diagrams and images which allows him to have a better understanding of the subject. 

2) Distant learning: With the advancement in technology is it now possible for students from every corner across the globe to have access to education. Video lectures can be viewed online and there are apps such as Unacademy, Clear IAS and Pratiyogita Darpan that help students learn through online platform. 

3) Keeping record of students: Over the years, the use of devises such as computers and laptops have made the education system much simpler. From maintaining records, to keeping a track of students progresses online, everything can be evaluated in a trouble-free and transparent manner. 

Problems with technology in the Classroom

Where the use of technology in classrooms had made the education system much simpler, its excessive use can also lead to be series of drawbacks 


1) Increase of loneliness in students: Excessive use of social networking apps has made the students too much addicted to the “reel world” than the “real world". 

2) Cause of mass destruction: It is no secret that the greater and simpler the access to technology, the more would be its illegitimate use, thereby leading to the invention of powerful mass destruction weapons. 

3) Laziness among students: Allowing students to have access to mobile phones, iPad, calculators etc. in class rooms has proven to be more harm than good as it makes them more and more dependent on them which adversely affects their IQ LEVEL in the long run.
